Mary Pat Shaffer Letter to the Editor

Beneke has an unflagging interest in SLP schools

I am very happy to support Jim Beneke for St. Louis Park School Board.

Jim has a long history of contributing to the SLP community. He is a Children First Asset Champion, and he has taken on leadership roles on the school district’s Community Education Advisory Committee and the city’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. And, as a current member of the school district’s World's Best Workforce Advisory Committee, Jim is helping to advise the superintendent on the district’s initiatives aimed at closing the achievement gap and its efforts to help prepare students to achieve their post-high school career and college goals.

Over the years, Jim has also been a coach and mentor to countless SLP kids through his involvement with SLP soccer, the swim team, and Lego League.

Jim is a strong proponent of SLP schools, and he has shown an unflagging interest in issues such as enhancing the learning environment for all students, supporting the whole child with efforts focused on mental health, family support and nutrition, and engaging the entire community in lifelong learning. He has made it a priority to stay informed and involved.

Perhaps most importantly, Jim is open-minded and a great listener. He values and solicits opinions, and I feel strongly that these qualities—along with his extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the issues facing our students, teachers, families, and administrators—will help Jim be a thoughtful and engaged member of the SLP School board.

Please join me in voting for Jim Beneke for SLP School Board on November 3rd.

Sincerely,

Mary Pat Shaffer
