Sun-Sailor April 15, 2019 St. Louis Park School District will not change start times until 2020-21 school year

Boardmember Jim Beneke had expressed doubts about the triangle option during the March 28 special school board meeting while other board members supported the concept. He ultimately joined the board in voting for the triangle option.
Due to financial constraints, Beneke said there is no solution that meets everyone’s needs perfectly.
“Believe me, we have tried,” he said.
With the end of this school year coming, Beneke said, “It’s just tough to see everyone being able to give the best effort to do this before next fall.”

Sun-Sailor June 19, 2018 St. Louis Park School Board votes 6-1 to adopt gender inclusion policy

Boardmember Jim Beneke replied that he believes the need for such a policy is strong. He cited statistics relating to the percentage of transgender individuals who attempt suicide. Transgender individuals who believe they have a strong support system are less likely to do so, Beneke said.
“In St. Louis Park, I believe most of us have always tried to support our gender diverse youth, but a uniform policy is still much needed to address the unique issues our gender diverse students face,” Beneke said.
He added that the gender inclusion policy will drive staff training, provide guidance about how to support young people and prompt the development of procedures to ensure students are addressed in a manner they choose, which he called “a question of basic respect.”

Sun-Sailor May 8, 2017 SLP voters will consider request for $100.9 million on ballot in November

Boardmember Jim Beneke said he could not imagine that people in the district would object to most of the referendum’s goals.
"There may be, like, 10 percent of it that some people might not feel the need for, but I suspect if anyone went through it they would come up with a plan of at least $80 million," Beneke said.
He pointed to an extensive process that created the proposal, including work by a strategic planning committee and a Learning Design Team along with lengthy board meetings and staff time dedicated to the effort.
"Everyone has had their shot at constructing this plan, and it’s something we should be proud of," Beneke said.

Thom Miller Letter to the Editor

I whole-heartedly support Jim Beneke for St. Louis Park School Board.

The job of our school board members is one that requires great dedication and concern for our award winning school district and the well-being of the students. It’s a job that requires thoughtful, caring individuals who at times are called upon to make tough decisions.

Jim Beneke has a long history of contributing to his community, including leadership roles on the Community Education Advisory Committee, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, World's Best Workforce Committee, and many others. He has coached in various roles both in sports and other activities. He’s a Children First Asset Champion.

I trust Jim to watch out for our children.
